I Was Going To Do This Blog Post Tomorrow…

I’m not normally one to give things up for Lent.  Ben gets quite into it, usually living on a diet of which a Carthusian monk would approve.  This year he’s decided to give up chocolate and fizzy drinks.  He had a farewell can of 7-up and bar of his favourite banana chocolate thing earlier this evening as I looked on with a tear in my eye.

I’ve decided to get involved too; mostly because it’ll give me something to do.  I have chosen to give up procrastination.  I am going to become organised and tidy and on top of things.  I’ve considered doing it in the past but the time has never felt right.

It kills me that I’m such a disorganised person at heart; I want to be one of those people who are always prepared and who know where everything is.  The person I want to be also has a really nice wardrobe; I’m not sure if that is related, but I would like some new shoes.

Here’s an example of how rubbish I am.  I left my last proper job nearly a year ago.  About nine months ago I asked my manager if he would sign off my work experience form for my accounts qualification.  Six months ago I asked Ben to print off the form so I could fill it in.  Today I decided to fill it in but couldn’t find it in the chaos of our office.  Gah!!

Tomorrow I’ve asked Ben to make me get up before 9am so I can make a good start on this new life.  I’m going to do some Yogalates (new Laura is much more bendy and does not tire when climbing the stairs) and then make an enormous to do list.  Obviously, I will start the list with ‘Make to do list’ in time honoured fashion.  I WILL NOT waste time colour coordinating it though – that is something the old Laura would have done.

I’m fairly sure I posted something along these lines on New Years Day.  Since then I’ve been consistently doing my own head in and not achieving anything.  I think the trick is that this time I’m focusing on the source problem rather than the specific goals I want to reach.  I hope so, anyway.

While writing this I’ve been distracted by several cups of tea, determining the precise number of days in Lent, other peoples blogs, my own blog and a baby manatee named Herbert. It doesn’t bode well.

But colour coding would help you fulfill your goals! Maybe item 2 on your "to do list" could be to colour code the list?

Well, this requires some thought. I might spend the next forty odd days thinking about it; I don't want to make the wrong decision after all...
